An undeservedly forgotten play. - Oscar Wilde is one of those authors who you d love to read more of but never find the time. This means that most people s experience is seeing Importance of being Earnest or hearing his famous wit.This is where this audio CD comes in handy. At 3 CD s, it is a long car journey, and for that you are rewarded with that audio book rarity: a good play and a professional and well executed production.Not only is the play full of some of Mr Wilde s finest dialogue (e.g. we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars and a Cynic knows the price of everything and the value of nothing ), but it is also performed by a host of talented actors (including the inimitable Lawrence Olivier).So if you do not know much Oscar Wilde, or even if you do, then it is well worth getting a copy of this CD. Showings of this play are very scarce and a film has not been made, so this format is probably your best chance of hearing a good, performed version. And btw, if you like this play and want more Oscar Wilde, then I thoroughly recommend the film of Ideal Husband .
Had to read for A Levels - I had to read this play for my A Levels, and as with most books on the curriculum a teenager wouldnt usually pick them up, but once again the exam boards have chosen another great classic!! Oscar wildes play is a great reflection on the times and the dramatic twist of the play is what makes the play so great. A definite must read, like all other Wilde publications
